Hello there Friend
You may have heard me bang this drum before, but given the huge increase in Canva pricing recently, it's worth another go around.... let's talk about your subscriptions.
Absolutely it's a good time to review your subscriptions and figure out what you aren't using or where you could reasonably downgrade.
But don't go throwing away things that make life easier, that save you time.
When prices increase across the board like they have been for the last year, it's probably time for YOU to look at YOUR pricing and focus on increasing your revenue (and profit).
A small increase in revenue, and a 1-2% decrease in your costs can have a massive impact on your take home pay.
So I challenge you, if you don't know how much it costs you to run your business every month, please figure that out ASAP.
Mine costs are $3k per month by the way - and that is on the very very lean side. I used to think it was too much and do everything I could to NOT pay for anything that would make life easier for me. Which was something I had picked up from my first accountant who didn't care if I spent hours and hours delivering work manually and stressed out of my brain if I was reducing my costs. Ew Greg. No.
Hit reply if figuring out that number gives you the shits and you don't know where to start and I'll give you a quick rough and ready way to dip your toes in. This shit used to really stress me out so I would avoid it. Don't do that.
Ways you may be able to decrease costs:
- Lifetime deals from App Sumo, I can recommend TidyCal, Clawdia Proposals, and many others that are now sold out (I share my best recs with No BS Business Club by the way)
- Find alternatives, move over ManyChat - for $99 USD you can have lifetime access to Clepher Messenger instead.
- Paying for subscriptions annually can save your anything from 20-30%
- Ask for a discount - most providers will give you a token 10% off code if you ask nicely (except Zoom because they're dicks)
Client Stuff
I am always learning new things alongside my clients, so here is my latest nugget.
A client and I have been going around in circles for months on how to access trending audio for ads. With the Universal Music v TikTok drama of 2023, a lot of third party music license databases became very very expensive (and wouldn't let you use the music for clients) and this subject is something advertisers like to remain a bit vague about.
After months of looking into how small - medium sized brands are accessing trending audios for ads, it turns out many are simply taking highly remixed, sped up music and using it ads with their fingers crossed.
But with news recently of Marriot being sued by Sony for using trending audio in ads, I would rather a more above board solution, which made this App Sumo offer quite timely.
If it's time to look at your pricing but you don't know where to start, if you want a price increase email template because it's time or if you want help working out your costs... flick me a reply and I'll hook you up.
Love your work,
Rachel
